FY10 Annual Meeting and Pond Clinic

On August 13, 2009, the Knox County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted a pond clinic at Steve Franklin’s pond.  Ron Hall, District Conservationist, NRCS, provided information on Pond Site Selection.  Kyle Cecil, University of Illinois Extension Services Agriculture and Natural Resource Management Unit Educator, discussed Watershed Management.  Ken Russell, Fisheries Biologist, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, talked about fisheries management.  Following his presentation, Ken “shocked” the pond.  This practice, not harmful to the fish, stuns the fish so they can be gathered for measurement of length and weight.  He also had various aquatic life available for viewing.

Following the presentations, the Knox SWCD held their annual meeting.  Approximately 100 people enjoyed a fish dinner at the completion of the meeting.  If you would like more information regarding the topics discussed that night, please contact Kyle at (309) 342-5108, Ron at (309) 342-5714, and Ken at PO Box 1137, Galesburg, IL 61401.

We would like to thank all sponsors, donors and presenters for helping make the night a success.  A special thanks to Steve Franklin and family for providing the location, “Texas Bob” and Bob Eaves for preparing the fish.  Please acknowledge the listed donors and sponsors.
