IDNR Management of Small Lakes and Ponds in Illinois guidebook

Hauling Tips for Getting Your Fish Home Safely
  1. Pond water is required at pick-up for 8-10" catfish. Well water is acceptable, but does not contain much oxygen. DO NOT bring city water. The chlorine in city water will kill your fish! Collect water on delivery day to ensure sufficient amounts of oxygen.
  2. Bring containers to hold the bagged fish upright, preferably (i.e. 5 gallon buckets, tote bins, laundry baskets, etc.)
  3. Go directly to your pond and add your new fish. Bagged fish should be kept out of sunlight on your trip home.
